Founded around 1650th by a cossack it has a rather diverse history: first being a cossack regiment or a centeral city of one of them (they were ragarded not only as military but territorial units as well), then a regional trade centre with included sugar refinement (title “Sugar Capital of Europe” doesn’t appear for no reason in its history after all) and engineering workshops and later a full-fledged modern regional centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While you certainly can read up on the history of this particular city, which I highly encourage you doing as history on its own is always interesting, let us go back to this picture above. What you see there is main street traditionally having a multi-purpose role of being a town square and open-air event centre, tourist attraction, shopping destination (come on, did you expect it to be “just” a street? No town will let you visit it and miss something interesting to see or buy), bars, restaurants, jewellery store and a rather large, as for surrounding area, cathedral. There are places which do change their character in different times of day and\/or year, this is one: daytime gives it a look of old-timey street, still retaining part of its original planning and buildings, night emphasises new aspects with careful lighting and transforms busy street into cosy and relaxing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
